JUST SOME OF MARILYN’S REFORMS ACHIEVED ON THE GOVERNOR’S COUNCIL

Stopped past practice of Governor’s Councilors accepting political donations from nominee they were voting on (upon application).


Changed Parole Board whose members were ALL prosecutors. Now have expert members identify inmates’ mental health issue, drug addictions and learning disabilities to prepare them for reentry.


Established 1st transparent and informative Governor’s Council Website.


Marilyn has cast some historic votes on Supreme Judicial Court!


  • 1st Majority of Women ever on Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. 
  • 1st African American Man – Justice Roderick Ireland for Chief Justice.
  • 1st Jewish American Man – Justice Ralph D. Gants for Chief Justice.
  • 1st Openly gay woman – Justice Barbara A. Lenk 
  • 1st African American Women – Justice Geraldine Hines 
  • 1st Asian American – Justice Fernande R. V. Duffly


Marilyn is the only councilor who meets with every judicial nominee from Parole Board to Judge.


ONLY Full-time Governor’s Councilor – Only Councilor with near perfect  attendance at hearings and meetings.
